My Wickedest Muse
Dani Filth captured my admittedly gothic imagination from the start. I discovered him and Cradle of Filth when I agreed to do some illustrations for a friend of mine who runs an underground Metal magazine called Metal Hell. The first drawing I did, "The Stars Align" just came to me out of the blue (or black, perhaps), interestingly, before I owned, or had ever heard, the Cradle CD (Midian) with the apparent matching track, Cthulhu Dawn.
My fascination grew deeper as I acquired more of their work and Dani and Cradle spin more and more tales from the darkside. Gothic vampire romance, eerie timeless legends, and such resplendent imagery and force, what's not to like, as a painter seeking true, vivid inspiration? Plus, Dani is incredibly attractive. Which doesn't hurt.
I've created all of the images here traditionally and all are tangible (non-digital) works of art. It is important to me that I make this very clear in this day and age when digital imagery is so common. These works are made the old-fashioned way, by hand with various media, including acrylic paint on canvas, charcoal, pencils and pastels. Hundreds of hours and alot of love went into these one of a kind creations. I have tried to interpret and express the raw energy and depth of feeling that Dani posesses, a feeling captured here in my drawings even if only for a moment; or if I am lucky, for all of eternity.
About Dani Filth
Dani Filth, whose given name is Daniel Lloyd Davey, was born on July 25, 1973, in Hertford, England, and currently resides in Suffolk, UK. He is often perceived as being a Satanist, though he has stated that he's more of a Luciferian. (It's complicated- click here for more on that one). Dani is really an artist of much depth and many entwined layers, with countless influences (some of which include Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Slayer, and Tim Burton). Dani's far-reaching inspirations come through quite clearly in his lyrics, which cannot really be categorized, but Cradle of Filth, formed in 1991, is generally referred to as Extreme Metal.
